Chp.)13
1.) She's staying because she thinks Jean Louise needs a feminine influence. "For a while" is how long Aunt Alexandra is going to stay. In the beginning she sounds like she bosses people around.
2.) "Put my bag in the front bedroom, Calpurnia" is one of the things she first says. Thats a wierd way of saying hi. Its no question that they are not typical.
3.) Whenever Aunt Alexandra asked her a question she would mostly say, "Nothin". Adults might think they know a person but they don't know what really goes on. I act different around adults than with my friends so ,no they are not good at detecting if we are dull or fun.
4.)She thinks families should marry their cousins. Atticus doesn't want them to start to do the same.I think Atticus is right. They were not a "IncestuousSreak".

Chp.14.
5.) Atticus said that it "was carnal knowledge of a female by force". She doesn't think its such a big deal. She wants to know more but nobody will tell her straight.
6.) Aunty thinks Calpurnia is a bad influence on Scout. Atticus starts to yell stuff at her while she saying he's "soft-hearted".Alexandra thinks Calpurnia is a lot harder on the kids than a regular mother would be.
7.)She's glad to know he can stand up for himself. She doesn't like it when a brother snitches her out. Now Atticus knows what is going on.
Chp.15)
8.)Somebody might hurt Atticus for defending a black man. If Atticus dies who is going to take care of them. They are afraid their friends and neighbors will turn on them.
9.)The Ku KluxKlan was a political group more than a racis group in the 1920's.Atticus says,"The Ku Klux's is gone".They are probably going to come back.
10.)It was night time and it was scary. Somebody might hurt him and there wouldn't be a witness. The Ku KluxKlan might be back.
11.)Atticus was a very good lawyer and he was probably find the black guy innocent. A mob can't cgange anything against the law. There was no point to start a mob.
12.)She is part of Atticus's family and spoke up when people said bad stuff .
Chp.16.)
13.)He starting to stay quiet and respect others at the table a lot more. "Anything fit to say at table fits to say in front of Calpurnia."He sounds kind've scared but is still going to defend the defendent.
14.)He gets them on the balcony. He takes the seats of "four negroes". He abused the law a little bit.
15.)He took it "casually". He still takes it very seriously during a trial. He's probably going to be very fair during the trial.

T.Cosner p.4
Chapter 13
1. Why does Aunt Alexandra come to stay with Atticus and his family? What is she like?
Aunt Alexandra comes to stay with Atticus family because she says the children need a feminine figure in their lives. So she wants to come and help out Atticus.
She gets into clubs and groups of Maycomb and tries to tell everyone what to do and tries to tell Atticus how to raise the children.
2. Read the first two things Alexandra says when she comes to the Finch house. Are these typical of her or not?
Yes they are typical because she treats everyone badly from Atticus house. So why would she treat Calpurnia different. Also she always says Scout is doing something wrong and that she isn't lady like so when she says Scout stop scratching your head she means it.
3. Alexandra thinks Scout is “dull” (not clever). Why does she think this, and is she right? Are all adults good at knowing how clever young people are?
She thinks Scout is "dull" because she dresses like a boy. No she isn't right because if she doesn't feel comfortable in a dress then why should she wear one. You can't just tell if someone is clever if you look at them. She isn't around for enough time to notice that. No not all adults are good at knowing how clever young people are because they could be clever in different ways then just the way they think.
4. Comment on Aunt Alexandra's ideas about breeding and family. Why does Atticus tell them to forget it? Who is right, do you think?
Aunt Alexandra's idea about family and breed are the same you either listen and get rewared or don't listen and get punished. He tells them to forget it because the only reason why he was telling them is because Aunt Alexandra told him to.
Chapter 14
5. Comment on Atticus's explanation of rape. How suitable is this as an answer to Scout.
It is the right answer to tell Scout because she is still to younger for him to be describing rape. She wouldn't understand.
6. Why does Alexandra think Atticus should dismiss Calpurnia? How does Atticus respond to the suggestion?
Alexandra tells Atticus to dismiss Calpurnia because she thinks that because she is here that she can do it all and doesn't need any help. He says no because he considers Calpurnia part of the family so when she wants to leave she can leave but he isn't going to make her leave.
7. Why is Scout pleased when Jem fights her back? Why is she less pleased when he tells Atticus about Dill?
She is pleased because she knows that he still considers them as equals. She isn't pleased with him when he tells Atticus because she thinks that Atticus will tell Miss Rcahel and he will have to go home and she doesn't want him to leave.

Chapter 15
8. What is the “nightmare” that now descends upon the children?
The nightmare that the children are worrying about is that some peolpe might want to hurt Atticus because he is defending Tom Robinson a black man.
9. What was (and is) the Ku Klux Klan? What do you think of Atticus's comment about it?
The Ku Klux Klan(was) was a big group of peolpe that diliked another type of people. The Klu Klux Klan(is) a gruop of white men that dislike black men. It is true because they did tell the truth about how they didn't like certain type of people.
10. How does Jem react when Atticus tells him to go home, and why?
He doesn't listen because he thinks that the men are going to hurt Atticus so he tells him no. Also he doesn't listen because he wants to see what happens and why they want to hurt them.
11. What persuades the lynching-party to give up their attempt on Tom's life?
They leave because of Scout talking to Mr. Cunningham and asking about how his boy is doing. Also when Jem wouldn't leave they didn't want to hurt him in front of his kids.
12. Comment on the way Scout affects events without realizing it at the time.
She does good for herself and and for Tom Robinson because if they would have left then her father and Tom Robinson could have been hurt.
Chapter 16
13. What “subtle change” does Scout notice in her father?
14. How does Reverend Sykes help the children see and hear the trial? Is he right to do so?
He hepls them by letting them come and sit on the second floor with him and the black folks. Yes it was right because they need to know what is happening with the trial because it could affect their father.
15. Comment on Judge Taylor's attitude to his job. Does he take the trial seriously or not?
His attitude seems like he doesn't want to be there and that he gets really bored with all the trials he goes through. Also he falls asleep all the time but if someone wakes him up he will get mad and fine who ever did it. I don't think he takes the trial seriuosly because he really doesn't care what happens just as long as he gets paid.

kHamilton p4

Chapter 13
1. Aunt Alexandra comes to stay with Atticus and the children because she convinced Atticus that the children needed more of a mother figure. Although Atticus thought that Calpurnia did a fine job as a mother figure, he let Aunt Alexandra stay with them anyway. She is a straight-laced woman who feels the need to critique Scout into being more of a lady. She is a very social and proper woman.
2. “Put my bag in the front room, Calpurnia,” and “Jean Louise, stop scratching your head,” were the first things out of Aunt Alexandra’s mouth. These sound like very typical statements from her, if you think back to Christmas at Finch Landing. She may be a nice person but she stills speaks her mind without thought.
3. Alexandra comments that Scout is “dull” because she once called her “sluggish.” She thinks this because she must have not been a tomboy when she was Scout’s age. She is right in her mind, but to most, she just doesn’t understand how Scouts inner-workings operate. Some adults can tell when they are around clever children, but some can’t pick up on a child’s dexterity.
4. Alexandra had something to say about every family in Maycomb. If ever there was a slight exceeding characteristic in someone’s family, she would claim it as a “streak.” Atticus tells the children to forget about what she says because it is mainly gossip and the children don’t need to concern themselves with things like that. Alexandra might have a point about family heredity but it’s really not important to other people, so Atticus puts up a better front on the situation.

Chapter 14
5. Atticus explained to Scout that rape was ”carnal knowledge of a female by force and without consent.” If Scout’s vocabulary is as outstanding as it seems, then this is definitely a suitable explanation for her. But since rape is not just isolated to women, he might have said the knowledge of a person, not just a female.
6. Alexandra thinks that Atticus should let go of Calpurnia because she doesn’t think that it is suitable for children to grow up and learn from a colored person. Atticus dispels the notion because he knows that the family would not be able to function without her. She is the only one who cooks and cleans, and the children seem to be just fine with her.
7. Scout feels relief when Jem finally fights her back because it proves that he isn’t as mature as he has been acting. By fighting her back he comes back down to the same level as her and Scout can relive the old days. When Jem tells Atticus about Dill, Scouts hopes are crushed because they all know that telling Atticus was the most mature thing to do.

Chapter 15
8. The nightmare is the Trial of Tim Robinson. The children are now seeing their father with hints of fear that they have never seen before, and it really scares them. The children are quick to sense the air of uncertainty, but they don’t know how to deal with it.
9. The KKK was an organization of Caucasian people who believe that they are of superiority to the rest of mankind’s races. They mostly focus on black people and were known to lynch and terrorize them around the 1920s-1950s. The KKK are not around very much anymore except a few aggregations in the Southern states of America.
10. Jem tells Atticus that he “ain’t going” every time that Atticus tells him to go home. Jem is acting this way because he knows that his father may be in trouble and he wants to help protect him. Jem means well, but considering his size and age, he is no match for a whole group of men.
11. The lynching-party finally gives up because of Scout’s incessant attempts at conversation toward Mr. Cunningham. Either they were too drunk and tried to keep up with the situation or they started to come to their senses and realized it would be a terrible thing to subject children to the sight of lynching a person.
12. The fact the she avoided the whole situation without realizing it is remarkable. Because of her kind manners and the way she had been brought up to make nice conversation with a person, she saved a life.

Chapter 16
13. Scout starts to see that her father is beginning to be “starch” with Aunt Alexandra. When she says something rude, especially about colored people, his rebuttals have become sharper. It’s really no surprise though; by now it is obvious that Atticus sees every race equal to the other.
14. When the Reverend sees that the children are not able to see the trial from where they stand, he offers them to come join him on the balcony. The children gratefully accept and follow him up the stairs. He is kind for doing so, and there does not seem to be anything wrong with it.
15. Judge Taylor never seems interested about what is going on during a trial, but he is always listening and thinking. Although he may do things that seem like he isn’t paying attention, he is and knows what to think about it. He takes trials seriously but in a lazy way.

1. Aunt Alexandra comes to stay with Atticus and the children because she thinks that Atticus and the children needed someone to act like and be a mother to them. She is a proper woman who feels that Scout needs to act and be more like a young lady.
2. “Put my bag in the front room, Calpurnia,” and “Jean Louise, stop scratching your head,” were the first things out of Aunt Alexandra’s mouth. These sound like typical statements from her, with what it seems like the type of persons he is.
3. Alexandra comments that Scout is “dull” because she once called her “sluggish.” She thinks this because she was not at all like scout when she was younger. She has good intentions I think.
4. Alexandra had something to say about every family in Maycomb. Atticus tells the children to forget about what thier Aunt says because it is mainly gossip and the children don’t need to hear or worry about things like that.

Chapter 14
5. Atticus explained to Scout that rape was ”carnal knowledge of a female by force and without consent.” I don't think explaining this to Scount in this way is appropiate, it just sounds like a definition, and doesn't sound as seriuos as it should, especially to a little girl.
6. Alexandra thinks that Atticus should let go of Calpurnia because she doesn’t think that it is appropiate for children to grow up and learn from a colored person. Atticus disagrees, because the children grew up with her and she is a good house keeper, and Jem and Scout seem to be getting along just fine with her.
7. Scout feels relief when Jem finally fights her back because it shows that he isn’t as mature as he says he is.

Chapter 15
8. The nightmare is the Trial of Tim Robinson. The children are now seeing their father afraid and they have never seen that trait in him before.
9. The KKK was an organization of Caucasian people who believe that they are of superiority to the rest of mankind’s races. They mostly focus on black people and were known to lynch and terrorize them around the 1920s-1950s.
10. Jem tells Atticus that he “ain’t going” every time that Atticus tells him he needs to go home. Jem is acting this way because wants to help protect him.
11. The lynching-party finally gives up because of Scout’s conversation with Mr. Cunningham. Either they were too drunk or tried to keep up with the situation or they started to come to their senses and realized it would be a horrible thing to let the children see.
12. The fact the she avoided the whole situation without anyone realizing anything is astounding.

Chapter 16
13. Scout starts to see that her father is beginning to be “starch” with Aunt Alexandra. When she says something rude, especially about colored people, his remarkes have become sharper. Atticus sees every race as equal.
14. When the Reverend sees that the children are not able to see the trial from where they stand, he has them join him on the balcony. The children follow him up the stairs.
15. Judge Taylor never seems interested about what is going on during a trial, but he is always listening and thinking. It seems like he doesn't need a trial to find these boys guilty.

Chapter 13
1.) Aunt Alexandria some to sat with Atticus because she think Atticus needed help with the children but especially Scout. “We decided that it would be best for you to have some feminine influence” She is very demanding and she likes to have thing her way.
2.) “Jean Louise, stop scratching your head.” These is the typical aunt Alexandria. She always likes to pick on Scout. She is always saying negative comments about her.
3.) She might think that Scout is dull because whenever Alexandria asks Scout something she always responds with the same thing. “I could think of nothing else to say to her.” Also because she might dress like a boy and Alexandra doesn’t like that. I don’t think she is right and I don’t think that adults know how much cleaver young people are.
4.) Alexandria always has a comment about breeding in every family in Maycomb. Alexandria wanted the Finch to be a GOOD family. “I am trying to tell you the facts of life” Atticus tells them to forget it because the children are too small to care for that.

Chapter 14
5.) “He sighted, and said rape was carnal knowledge of a female by force and without consent.” The explanation was ok. This answer might not be so appropriate for Scout because she is still small. In the other hand she needed to know because she is a growing women.
6.) Alexandria thinks that Calprina has been there too long and that it was about time she leaves. “Alexandra, Calprina isn’t leaving this house until she wants to.” Atticus doesn’t want her to leave and she had been treating the kids good. She had been like a mother to them.
7) “Ain’t so high and mighty now, are you.” Scout is pleased because now her and Jem were equal and she wanted Jem to fight back. She is less pleased when Jem tells Atticus about Dill because she doesn’t want him to go home. Dill didn’t want his mom to know where he was and scout new that her dad will tell his mom where he was and how he was doing.

Chapter 15
8.) The nightmare that is upon the children now is about Atticus. Atticus is defending Tom Robinson a black man. The children feel that if he still keep defending him then he might get hurt by people and friends might turn their backs on him. “Scared about Atticus. Somebody might hurt him.”
9.) The KKK is a gang that only like white people and they where the cone like mask over their face. “The Ku Klux Klan’s gone.” I think that this comment was right for a children to understand. If Atticus would have said that they were still around then Jem and Scout would be more worried about him.
10.) Jem reacts surprised when Atticus tells him to go back inside. “ I turned to Jem, who waved me to silence.” Jem doesn’t want to go home because he want to know why the people might want to hurt him.
11) The lynching-party gives up because there is nothing they can do. Atticus is a good lawyer so he might find him innocent. The lynching-party didn’t want to hurt Tom in front of the children. “Shooting on Sundays was prohibited.”
12. Comment on the way Scout affects events without realizing it at the time.
Scout tries to hide away from the trial. She doesn’t like the fact that her father might get hurt by people that don’t like him defending Tom. She responded back when people said bad stuff about Atticus.

Chapter 16
13.) “I was beginning to notice a subtle change in my father these days.” Atticus was being more careful. People wanted him to get hurt and he wasn’t acting the same way with Scout and Jem. He is scared but that is not going to stop him from defending Tom.
14.) Reverend Sykes help the children see and hear the trial by taking the children with them.
“Do you all reckon it’ll be all right if you all come to the balcony with me.” the children could see the trial form where they were from. I think that the Reverend did the right thing because what ever is going on with the trial it will somehow affect his father.
15.) “He was a man learning in the law, and although he seemed to take his job casually.” He didn’t seem to care what was going on. He kind of dozed off a couple of times during the trial. When the lawyers tried to wake him up he said that if they do it again the would get a $100 fine. I don’t think that he took this case seriously.

Jcalderon Per. 1

1. Aunt Alexandra comes to stay with the family because Atticus has to put in more time into the case and so he won’t be able to watch the kids as much. Aunt Alexandra isn’t liked by scout and jem. She doesn’t like the way Atticus raises the kids and she is always telling them what a disgrace they are to the family.
2. These things are normal for her to say. She always likes to give orders to them and likes to point out the things that the kids are doing wrong.
3. She thinks this way of scout because scout isn’t interesting in the things that normal little girls are interested in. Alexandra is wrong in her way of thinking because scout is clever just in her own unique way. Grown ups are usually wrong on what is clever or not because they are stuck in doing things their way.
4. She thinks that they have to live up to their standard (of the past relatives) or go by the same life style and rules. Atticus tells them to forget it because, I think, that the children don’t have to do anything better or change the way they are but that the parents have to do better. I think Atticus is right in a sense that the children are the way they are because of him.
5. His answer was very basic yet a little to advanced for children, he didn’t make it seem like a really bad and gross thing. The answer was suitable for scout in sense that she is happy that he even answered her question since Cal hadn’t wanted to.
6. Alexandra thinks that she should dismiss Cal because she thinks she is having a negative effect on the children. She also doesn’t like the kids being “involved” with colored people. Atticus responds by saying that Cal is a member of the family and she will leave when she wants to live, she has raised the children as their own and never treated them bad.
7. Scout is pleased when Jem fights back because it shows her that he is still not all that grown up than her, She is not pleased with him when he tells about dill because its shows Jem maturity on the issue he didn’t think like a kid but like a grown up would.
8. The nightmare is the fact that their father is being chased and tried to be killed by many men who dislike the fact that he is defending a colored man in court.
9. The Klan was a hateful Klan who hated colored people his comment was good because it calmed Jem down.
10. Jem doesn’t move, he stays there because he senses that his father is trouble and might get hurt.
11. The party is drawn back by scout’s comments to M. Cunningham, she starts talking to him about his son and how Atticus fed him.
12. She affects by the fact that she shows that every one helps everyone out just like Atticus helped both the Cunningham kid and how he is helping tom.

Chapter 13
1. She comes to stay with the family because she thinks its time the children grow up and Scout becomes use to being a lady. She’s nice but mean at the same time I guess you can say she’s strict.
2. The two things she says are typical of her because first of all she doesn’t like the fact that Atticus is defending Negroes and how Scout dresses like a boy.

3. I think she is wrong because she just says that because she wants Scout to wear dresses and be girly so that’s why she says that she is dull. Also I think that old folks don’t know which kids are clever and which ones aren’t because they just see what’s on the outside and not looking on the inside specially if they have a good imagination.

4. I think Atticus is right because he knows the children and how they are I guess he doesn’t want his sister to take over his spot.
