2. How do these words create a vivid visual of her mother?

4. What lines in this chapter create the sense of security and familial love that the narrator feels?
5. The last paragraph in this chapter is a run-on sentence. It is missing several verbs. How does the overall image created in the paragraph develop? How does the unusual grammar help with this development?

Who are the members of the narrator’s family? How is the hair of each member different?
The member of the narrators family are mama, papa, carlos, kiki, and then nenny. Her pop's hair is like a broom, her hair is lazy. Carlos' hair is thick and straight. Nennys hair is Thin-slides out of your hands and then kiki, with hair like fur.

2. What makes her mother’s hair special? What are the narrator’s feelings for her mother?
It's easy to tell that mothers hair is special because it has its own paragraph. Compared to the others who only have a few sentences. It shows that she admires her mother very much.

Themes:
In the first chapter a major theme of the novel was introduced. This very short chapter reinforces part of that theme. Discuss how the narrator’s view of her family is part of her idea of what makes a home.
The way she see's the family and what makes home is that without them, it would'nt feel the same. Even though she might not have that much privacy, she would rather feel like that than have her family not there.

Style:

1. What words does the narrator use to describe her mother’s hair? What food words are used to describe her mother’s hair? What images do these words create?
The words she used would be "she pinned it in pincurls all day, sweet to put your nose into when she is holding you."
The food words she used would be like little cancy circles,The warm smell of bread before you bake it.
You can see short curly hair that is soft.

2. How do these words create a vivid visual of her mother?
It doesnt really say how she looks, they just describe what her hair looks like.

3. How does the description of snuggling with her mother at night provide a sense of a loving and supportive family?
It gives off the sense of a loving and supporting family because people that feel that way, react to it. If you love somebody, you would snuggle up with them.

4. What lines in this chapter create the sense of security and familial love that the narrator feels?
“Is the smell she makes room for you on her side of the bed still warm with her skin, and you sleep near her, the rain outside falling and papa snoring.”

5. The last paragraph in this chapter is a run-on sentence. It is missing several verbs. How does the overall image created in the paragraph develop? How does the unusual grammar help with this development?
The unusual grammar makes it seem that shes really excited about talking about her mother. She wants people to understand the way she feels, without stopping.

Personal Response:
What is it about your home and your family that provides you with a sense of security? Can you identify with the narrator and her point of view?

The thing about my home that provides me with a sense is security is when my momma tells me she loves me. Even though it wont help if someone tries to break in, just incase something were to happen...I kno she loves me.
