1. Her dad is a gardner. He works at houses on hills.
2.She doesnt go anymore because she is ashamed. She doesnt want to be staring out of a window like hungry people.

4. She will offer the bums her attic. She would do that becauseshe wont forget where she came from and knows what its like to be homeless.

1.Sally says her father never hits her but the people don't believe her because a girl so beautiful like her cant be falling off stairs so often.

3.The situation changes because at the end of the chapter Sally is accusing him of hitting her when she said he never touched her before.
4.The ironic thing about the last two paragraphs is that her father seems he is ashamed of hitting her but after Sally returns home he hits her again.

5. It shows that she is a caring person. People will react strangly at first, because she keeps bums in her attic, but they will realize she is a good person for giving the less fortunate a place to stay.

2. She is at war with the idea of what woman are supposed to be, she says she wants to be like the woman in the movie who drives men crazy.

2. She can sing, she can fix a TV, she can speak two languages. However she can't take the right subway train.
3. She quit school because she was ashamed, because she didn't have nice clothes, she had brains, but no clothes.
4. She believes she was a smart cookie then because she had brains, but she made a bad decision and quit school, so she doesn't think that of herself now.

What Sally Said
1. She says to her mom, "He never hits me hard", but to the people at school she says she fell. No, no one believes her because a girl with the injuries to her face like she has can't just be falling off her stairs.
2. Her father fears that Sally will run away like his sisters that shamed his family.
3. Yes it changed one night when Sally stayed at Esperanza's house, her father came crying promising it was the last time and they went home.
4.
5. "But Sally doesn't tell about that time he hit her with his hands like a dog." This line gives the impression that her father believes she is lower than him, that he is stronger.

Monkey Garden
1. The monkey garden changed because the monkey doesn't live there anymore.
2. Sally wouldn't come with Esperanza and she stayed with the boys she was talking to.
3. First Esperanza tried to get Tito's mother to stop them, then she grabbed some sticks and a brick and ran to where Sally was, but the boys told her to go away. That made her feel embarrased and ashamed.
4. She didn't think it was a good place to play anymore because she had changed and so had the garden.

4. The garden is now not a garden it used to have pretty things in spring but since the monkey left its just a lot with old cars on it.

5. It's like a prison because she isn't allowed out unless he gives her permission. She is young and he took away all her rights and she can't enjoy her life.
