Themes
Esperanza is exploited by being tricked into a kiss by an old perverted man who assumed he could get away with it.

1. Esperanza uses words that make the whole experience detatched from her.
2. These words make Esperana seem much too immature for a job.

Personal Response
I think its safer to be cynical but ignorance is bliss, until one becomes informed and that bliss is tarnished

3. A guy who worked ther kissed her on the lips by telling her it was his birthday and when she went to kiss him on the cheek he tricked her.
4. It is developed when the guy tricks esperanza and kisses her.
5. She uses the words that it was ok but tiring. She says that it was kind of nerve racking.
6. She thought it would be easy the first day but she was wrongin some ways.
7. It is better to be trusting becaus people may break ur trust but then they end up regaining it some how.

1. There was this old man that told her it was his birthday and tricked her into kissing him.

Style:
1. She said it was really easy but she didn't know anyone and felt weird.
2. It makes her seem like she isn't ready for the job yet.

Personal Response:
There was this one time when I trusted this one guy to meet me in the class to help me finish a project and he never ended showing up. It put me in a position were I did not get to finish my project correctly and get a low grade.

1. Men think that women aren't strong and think they can do whatever they want to do with them and getaway with it, which in this neighborhood seems that they can and will.

1. She said her job was easy, she also mentioned that when it was lunch time she was scared beacause she had to eat alone with alot of men.
2. Well she still thinks that men won't do anything if she is seen alone.
Personal Response
I think there should be a balance of both and you should know when it is time to be trusting and when its time to be cynical.

On Esperanza's first day at work, and old man was flirting with her, and ends up forcing Esperanza to kiss him.

Themes:

In this chapter, the theme is developed to show how some young women are put into uncomfortable situations when confronted by old men.

Style:
When Esperanza described her first day at work, she used a few words that portrayed her as scared, unsure, and frightened.

The image that her description portrayed was that she was not ready for the responsibility, and the pressure of the job.

Personal Response:

If you learn to balance your trust, then you can keep yourself out of harms way.

1. Esperanza's Father could not supply her with a High school education in terms of money, thus she must get a job to support herself throughout High school.

2. While working at Peter Pan Photo Finishers, Esperanza's position is to match the negatives to their original photos.

3. A oriental man asks for a inoccent peck on the cheek for a birthday present, however as she closes the gap between her mouth and his cheek, he grasps her face and forces a mouth-to-mouth kiss.

Themes
-Esperanza's innocence and naiveté
leads to the old man forceing himself upon her.

Style

1.The description she gives us leads me to believe that, while her job is easy, she feels that the lack of company or at least human emotion from coworkers is a bit unnerving.

2. Such words gives the effect that her innocence and gulibility could be her downfall in this particular chapter.

Personal
Being cynical could avert more situations like this, however such atitudes leads to the separation from others.

I have put my trust in people and it most definitly been broken. It's better to be cynical and not get your hopes up about people. Stand your ground and maybe let people open up to you a little more before you come too vulnerable.

I always try to rely on myself, and only myself. Trust nobody but yourself because even the closest person to you can turn as fast as it takes you to blink.

Personal Response -

There's been many times when i've been put into a difficult position based on if I am cynical or I am trusting. I would rather not name just one situation but just the times when you trust someone and then later realize that you shouldn't have trusted that person or at least make everyone earn their trust.

I have given m trust to many people but at times when I tell them to not tell people they do.This makes me lose trust within them and can't tell them things. I think it is better to be trusting because then you are considered as a good person and easy to talk with.

3)Her first day of work was awkward because she felt out of place wherever she went.
II.
1)The theme of the exploitation of women is expressed in this chapter by giving Esperanza a not particularly good job. She just had to match pictures with their negatives and she wasn't allowed to know where the pictures were going.
III.
1)Esperanza uses words like scared and nervous to describe her first day at work.
2)Esperanza thought that she felt better just because someone talked to her and she trusted him. She shouldn't have trusted the creepy old guy.
IV.
1)I only talk to my close friends about my problems that I don't want anyone else to know about because people tend to tell everyone about my secrets. I think it is better to be trusting rather than cynical because if you're cynical, you'll never have anyone to talk to because you won't trust them.
