Questions:
The narrator felt that boys and girls were from different universes. Boys have allot to say to girls inside the house, but outside, want nothing to do with them.

Esperanza felt that her sister Nenny was too young to be friends with, and that she was just another responsibility.

Esperanza dreamed that one day she will meet the perfect friend, that will understand her, and be like her in everyway. This thought shows how lonely Esperanza is.

Quotes:
The boys and the girls live in separate worlds, means that they are completely different from one another.

When Esperanza said Carlos and kaki are each others best friends, she meant that they don’t have anything to do with Esperanza and Nenny outside of the house.

Someday I will have a best friend all my own. Esperanza feels she has no one to talk to, and no one that understands what she feels or thinks.

When Eperanza said "Until then I am a red balloon, a balloon tied to an anchor." She felt that mango street had her tied down, that she had no where to go and until she was old enough, she was stuck where she was.

Themes:
The theme that was introduced into this chapter was Esperanza'sfeeling of being shackled.

Style:
Esperanza felt that since Nenny was so young, she was another responsibility for her to look after.

Esperanza’s dream of a best friend was someone closer to her age, someone she didn't have to take care of or look after.

The phrase boys and the girls live in separate worlds, shows the sense of separation she feels. Esperanza feels divided because she can’t do what boys get to do, and boys are not supposed to do what the girls do.

Personal Response:
"The boys and the girls live in separate worlds" means that boys are expected to play and run, and come home dirty, while the girls are supposed to play nicely and come home clean. This is only one example of the gender separation that divides the world.
