1. How are Nenny and Esperanza alike? How are Rachel and Lucy alike?
2. What did the houses represent to Esperanza? Did she know exactly why they represented this? Why or why not?

Themes
A major theme of the novel is continued in this chapter. Esperanza and Nenny both see a house as “like Mexico.” What does this show about Esperanza’s idea of a home? Is her idea limited to a physical structure? Why or why not?

Style
Cisneros has a poetic style. She incorporates both vivid imagery and spare prose. She uses both to create a picture of the narrator’s world.

1. What words does the narrator use to describe the houses that look like Mexico? How does this create a sense of connection to her heritage?
2. How does is the laughter of the two sets of sisters described? How does this contribute to the family between the sisters?

Questions:
1.Nenny and Esperanza are alike by the way they laugh. Rachel and Lucy are alike by them both having the big, fat, popsicle lips, just like the rest of their family.
2. The houses represents Mexico in Esperanza's eyes. She didn't know exactly why they reminded her of Mexico, she just saw them and they reminded her of the houses in Mexico.
3. Her sister Nenny agreed with her that the house represents them about Mexico. This shows that two minds think alike.

Styles:
1. She uses the words "Therer was nothing about the house that looked exaxtlly like the houses I remebered ...but it seemed to feel right.
2. The laughter is described as a sudden and suprised like a pile of dishes breaking. There laugh is baciclly the same.
3. "Not the shy ice cream bells' giggle of Rachels and lucy's family, but a sudden....." creates the sence of family unity that the narrator feels.

2. The house represented Mexico to Esperanza because she had the feeling of mexico when she looked at the house.

Esperanza idea of home is somthing that she is used to, not like Mexico, her idea is limited to a physical structure because it dosent look like home its unfamilar to her.

Nenny and Esperanza don't look a lot like sister's. But there laughter is the same. Rachael and Lucy look a lot alike they have fat popsicle lips.

The house represented mexico to esperanza. She doesn't reallly understand why.All she knows is that it did and it just felt right.

Nenny agreed with Esperanza and said Yes thats what I was thinking.

Esperanza and Nenny both see a house that looks like Mexico. This shows that Esperanza and Nenny may miss her family members from Mexico. Yes her idea is limited to physical structure because the house is all she can look at.

The narrator says 'In my mind, like the houses in Mexico. I dont know why there was nothing about the house that looked exactly the same. "But it just felt right". This shows she may miss her family in mexico.

The laughter of the two sisters are like "a suprised pile of dishes breaking". This makes me fel that the family maybe poor but they love eachother and thats all that matters.

I resembly and share most personality traits with my sister cara. We get a long very well and i feel as if i can tell her very close things. I think Esperanza shares much connection with her family and has a strong heritage with them.
